Before the First World War, collecting small china souvenirs displaying a town’s coat-of-arms was a popular pastime, and The Stores boast many pieces adorned with Darlington’s emblem.
In addition to this fine-china collection, The Stores house 30,000 railway heritage artefacts, including model locomotives, nameplates, signage, furniture, clothing, and many other significant historical items. This extensive collection offers a deep insight into the development and operation of railways in North East England, showcasing objects and artefacts that are not featured in the permanent displays.
