A housing development in Darlington has received a commendation from the Royal Institute of British Architects, under the Hadrian Awards Scheme.
The Woodlands Estate, part of the grounds of the Woodlands mansion, was developed by Darlington developers Bussey Armstrong and completed last year.
At a presentation at the National Glass Centre, Sunderland, on 22nd June 2001 the commendation was received by John Ellis of Anderson Ellis Partnership and Tony Cooper of Bussey Armstrong who worked together to realise the project.
John Ellis said, "We thoroughly enjoyed being associated with this project and feel that, together with Bussey Armstrong Homes, we have achieved the full potential of the site whilest creating a feeling of identity and sense of place which is lacking in so many new housing developments."
Tony Cooper of Bussey Armstrong said, "We are pleased to receive this award as due recognition of our joint efforts and which, with the support of the planners, will improve the design and quality of new housing in Darlington."
